At All Saints Church school, we believe that every child is an artist. Through our art curriculum, we aim to inspire creativity, curiosity and confidence, enabling children to express themselves, explore ideas and develop a lifelong appreciation of the visual arts. 

How do we teach art at All Saints? 

We follow the Access Art curriculum, which provides a rich, broad and contemporary approach to art education. Through a wide range of exciting opportunities, children explore drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, digital media and design, while developing both technical skills and creative thinking. We want every child to discover an aspect of art that feels meaningful and engaging to them, whether that is through making, designing, drawing, discussing or responding to artwork. 

Our curriculum is carefully planned to ensure progression in knowledge and skills whilst encouraging experimentation, independence and imagination. Children learn about a diverse range of artists, designers and craftspeople from different cultures, time periods and backgrounds, helping them to understand the important role that art plays in our lives and communities. 

We encourage children to take risks, reflect on their work and celebrate their individuality as creative learners. Through sketchbook work, practical exploration and thoughtful discussion, pupils learn that creativity is not simply about producing a final piece of work, but about developing ideas, solving problems and expressing themselves in unique ways. 

By the time our children leave Year 6, we want them to feel confident in their creative abilities, understand the value of art in the wider world and know that their ideas, imagination and creativity matter. We aim for every child to leave primary school with a sense of pride in their artistic journey and the confidence to continue exploring their creativity in the future. 

EYFS 

Young children are naturally creative, curious and eager to explore the world around them. At All Saints, we provide a rich and stimulating art curriculum that nurtures children's imagination, creativity and confidence from the very beginning of their school journey. Through open-ended, hands-on experiences, children are encouraged to investigate materials, experiment with ideas and express themselves in a variety of ways. 

Our EYFS art provision is inspired by the Access Art approach and is built around opportunities to explore what they can see: colour, materials, mark-making, construction, three-dimensional forms, movement and imagination. Children are given the freedom to play, create and discover through a wide range of artistic experiences, developing both their fine motor skills and their ability to communicate ideas visually. 

We believe that every child should feel confident in their own creative abilities. By encouraging exploration, curiosity and personal expression, we help children develop resilience, independence and a willingness to take creative risks. Through discussion, observation and practical experiences, children begin to understand that there is no single "right" answer in art and that their own ideas and responses are valued. 

Our aim is to provide an inclusive and inspiring environment where all children can develop a love of creativity, build confidence in their artistic choices and establish the foundations for future learning through the Access Art Primary Art Curriculum. We want every child to see themselves as a capable and creative artist, ready to explore, imagine and create. 

Our art roadmap shows the themes of science and how they progress and build upon each other as children move through our school. 

At All Saints Church School, we have a whole-school ethos of being Ready, Respectful and Safe. Our art curriculum encourages children to develop these values through creative exploration, thoughtful discussion and collaborative learning. We teach children to respect their own ideas, the work of others and the diverse range of artists, craftspeople and designers who help shape our world. Through our creative experiences, children learn to take risks, embrace mistakes as part of the learning process and develop confidence in expressing themselves as unique individuals. 

Following the AccessArt curriculum, we provide a broad, rich and contemporary art education that enables all children to explore a wide range of materials, techniques, disciplines and creative approaches. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to discover an aspect of the visual arts that is meaningful and engaging to them, whether through drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, design or discussion. 

By providing inspiring and memorable artistic experiences, we aim to nurture confident, curious and creative learners who understand the value of art in their own lives and in the wider world. Through sketchbooks, practical exploration and reflective conversations, children are encouraged to develop their own ideas, make personal responses to stimuli and build resilience as creative thinkers. 

Our curriculum helps children build both technical skills and a deeper understanding of the purpose and relevance of art in society. We want our pupils to leave All Saints with the confidence to express themselves creatively, the ability to think imaginatively and the understanding that creativity is an important skill that will support them throughout their lives. 

EXTRA-CURRICULAR 

To enhance our art curriculum, we provide a range of extra-curricular experiences and opportunities for our children. Through our art clubs, pupils have the opportunity to explore a variety of creative processes, materials and techniques that extend beyond the classroom curriculum. These sessions allow children to experiment with new and more specialist artistic activities, develop their skills and express their creativity in exciting ways. 

Our Art Ambassadors play an important role within the school community, helping to promote creativity and a love of the arts across the school. They work alongside staff to organise and lead art competitions, celebrate children's achievements and encourage participation in creative projects and events. We love art so much that we have fund raised and created our own art trolley which we roll out on to the playground so everyone can enjoy  creating!

Through these opportunities, we aim to inspire children to see themselves as artists, build confidence in their creative abilities and recognise the important role that art and creativity play in the wider world.
