Healthy Eating
Healthy Eating at All Saints
At All Saints, we believe that healthy children are happy learners. We are passionate about helping our pupils develop healthy habits that will support both their learning and their wellbeing, encouraging them to make positive food choices that will benefit them throughout their lives.
During the summer term, the whole school enjoyed a fantastic Healthy Eating Day, filled with exciting, hands-on activities designed to inspire children to think more carefully about the food they eat. Throughout the day, the children met our Healthy Eating Heroes, who shared the memorable motto:
The children discovered that although sugary snacks can seem tempting, they often give us a quick burst of energy followed by a crash, leaving us feeling tired and unable to concentrate. In contrast, healthier foods provide slow-release energy that helps us stay focused, active and ready to learn throughout the day.
To bring this message to life, our staff performed a fun adaptation of The Hare and the Tortoise.
In our version, the Hare believed sugary snacks would help him win the race, while the Tortoise chose healthier foods to keep his energy levels steady. It was a fantastic way to demonstrate the importance of making sensible food choices in a memorable and engaging way.

Throughout the day, the children explored why it is important to "eat the rainbow", learning that different coloured fruits and vegetables provide different vitamins and nutrients to keep our bodies healthy and strong. They also investigated healthier snack alternatives, discovering that many highly processed snacks contain very little nutritional value and identifying simple swaps that can help keep their bodies fuelled for learning.
One of the highlights of the day was making our delicious Power Up Balls. The children loved preparing (and tasting!) these healthy snacks and were amazed that something so nutritious could taste so good. The recipe is included, so families can enjoy making them together at home.

Perhaps the most rewarding part of the day was hearing the conversations afterwards. Many children began discussing the contents of their lunchboxes, talking enthusiastically about healthier choices they could make and encouraging one another to try new foods. It was wonderful to see them taking ownership of their own health and recognising that the choices they make today can have a positive impact on their future.
After all, as we reminded the children throughout the day:
"We are what we eat!" 🍎🥕🌈
